We went to town again today (my cousins and i). Every year after Tet finishes, my cousins and i normally head into town with our money to buy new clothes and such for the new year. Our tradition is that we go to this store called Boo. If you live in Hanoi, chances are you know very well what Boo…
I agree with your friend. Long doesn’t always mean that it’s good.
Today i set the alarm for 8am but ended up waking at 8:45am. Fail. Taking a shower in Hanoi during winter in the morning is terrible, don’t ever do it. It’s suicide. I was finished with all my morning duties and got ready to go to my paternal/ biological grandmother’s house at around 9am. (Yes,…
Did you know there’s Ashima in HCMC?
Last night at Mentakab, Pahang. I’m going to Johor Bahru tomorrow to visit my maternal relatives. If you ask me what I did so far, I’ll say, “Eat, drink, play, dance, sing, talk, laugh and getting fat.” ^^ I’m extremely lucky to be able to go online these days, but I never meet the people I want to meet, too bad. Anyway, I’ll enjoy try to enjoy the rest of the holiday as much as I can!
February 12th 2010 (Day 16)
So i want to share a little bit of good news to you who are loyal followers of my blog. The AAIE American International Schools accreditation organization that our school belongs to had allowed for all AAIE school participants to nominate one person from their school to be placed in the selection process to attend an entrepreneurship summer program on a full scholarship. It is a very big deal. To apply, i had to write two essays and one resume. Atop all that, i also had to ask two teacher recommendations to be sent forth with my application as well. The final due date was January 15th— last month. The scholarship awards was announced today— February 12th. I HAD GOTTEN THE SCHOLARSHIP! My dad had received the phone call from my counselor today telling him that i had gotten into the program, and he had told me.
At first i had thought he was kidding. I mean, how could this happen so fast? I still remember sitting in front of that blank Microsoft word document thinking of was to start out my essays with immense (and commonly enough) writers block. I became shaky the whole day. I could not believe it that in four months time, i will be in a summer program on a scholarship. If any of you guys have had the feeling of winning something immensely important to you, you can relate how amazing this euphoria feels.
Take loads of pictures when you are at Hanoi, I want to see how you celebrate Tet! And about the scholarship, was one of the essays that you wrote the one that I showed my dad?
Anyway, Happy Tet and congratulations! ^^
February 11th 2010 (Day 15)
To those who go to my school, do you guys think that i write differently on my blog than at school? I’ve heard from some people that my writing skill has gone way down in comparison to last year. Not only does that really suck, i just think it is a little bit embarassing and degrading. Maybe i am being just a little paranoid, but i don’t understand how people can compare the type of english that i use on my blog, and the type of english that i use to write academic papers- i mean, blogs are supposed to be directly from what you think right?
When i write blogs, i write what ever comes to mind first. How do people judge you on that? What really bothered me the most was hearing someone say that my blog posts sounds like someone who speaks english as a second language. Not that i have anything against those people, but if i can’t be good in vietnamese, or in english, then what else is there? I was also told that i should add a little bit of flavor to my blog posts, but how so? Actually i can’t even think of how at the moment, as i am still a little bit bothered with people judging my writing.
Just curious, but from who did you hear that your writing has “degraded”?
Chinese New Year
一转眼,and year 2010’s Chinese New Year has arrived! I’m so excited! Aren’t you?
First off,t hanks to all of my today’s teacher for not giving any homework to me, and I’ll just cross my fingers so that tomorrow’s teachers will do the same. ^^
Secondly,I have a performance tomorrow first thing during first block! Nervous much? I’m going to perform “When You Wish Upon A Star”, with Sang Yeon, who plays the oboe. I hope everything will go well. Wish me luck!
At 12:30pm tomorrow, I’ll be leaving school, as I need to catch my 4:40pm flight to Malaysia. I know that some of the people that I know are also flying tomorrow, and so I wish that we’ll have the 缘分 to meet at the airport.
During Chinese New Year, most probably I will not be able to surf the Internet at all. Woa~ I wonder how would life be? I would miss some of the people sssooo much. T.T
Anyway, wish all of you a very happy Chinese New Year!
Packing clothes - packing as many red as I can, and eliminating black at the same time. I am traditional.
Reply to philippincus’ blog post: I’m not going to do ANY homework during Chinese New Year! None! Not even the speeches for National Honor Society. I’m going to let myself to enjoy this holiday thoroughly.
